JFK ASSASSINATION ARGUMENTS
(PART 870)

JON HAMBLETON SAID:

No evidence puts Lee Harvey Oswald on the sixth floor with his hands wrapped around the M-C rifle at 12:30 on 11/22/63. There is only circumstantial evidence that links him to the weapon (one of at least four) in evidence and that does not prove anything beyond a shadow of doubt.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Oswald's rifle was the murder weapon.

Oswald's prints were all over the place where the sniper was located (DEEP INSIDE the Sniper's Nest).

Oswald lied repeatedly about things he would have no reason to lie about if he was innocent. (Curtain rods, anyone? .... I never owned a rifle. .... Shelley told me I could leave. .... I bought that pistol in Fort Worth. .... I've never heard the name A.J. Hidell before. .... That's my head pasted onto somebody else's body.)

Oswald was in the building when JFK was killed.

Oswald had no provable alibi for his whereabouts at 12:30.

Oswald LIED about his whereabouts at 12:30.

Oswald was, in effect, a POLITICAL ASSASSIN seven months prior to November 22 (when he shot at General Walker in April '63).

And finally:

http://OSWALD-IS-GUILTY.blogspot.com

And I didn't even mention the name Howard Brennan or the fact that Oswald killed J.D. Tippit either.

Isn't it time for the Anybody-But-Oswald conspiracists to toss in the towel and just admit that Sweet Lee wasn't all that sweet after all? You have to twist the evidence into a big pretzel to believe otherwise.

ADDENDUM:

Every conspiracy theorist should be required to watch the video linked below featuring David W. Belin of the Warren Commission. His speech is loaded with ECS&F (Evidence, Common Sense, & Facts):

Excerpt......

"The very fact that [Oliver Stone's movie] 'JFK' adopts the lies of Oswald and asserts that the [backyard] picture was part of a frame-up is a vivid example of how a movie dedicated to the truth incorporates outright lies together with misrepresentations and omissions as the movie persuades its audience that Earl Warren and the Warren Commission covered up the truth.

[...]

The truth has a long fuse, and ultimately it prevails. Please help shorten the length of that fuse by digging the way journalists are supposed to dig and exposing the more than 100 major misrepresentations, omissions, and lies that have been perpetrated by Warner Brothers, [Kevin] Costner, and [Oliver] Stone. What they have done is just plain evil. And intelligent people who care for our country should not let them get away with it, particularly when they are now trying to invade our public schools with their lies."

-- David W. Belin; March 26, 1992

COLIN CROW SAID:

Just a quick one David, a technicality really, would he [Oswald] really qualify as an assassin prior to 11/22/63? General Walker was still alive. I understood that to qualify as an assassin, one had to be successful. Perhaps incompetent, wanna-be assassin or even a possible conspirator in phony staged assassination attempts might even be arguable.

As for your other stuff, yeah he lied about some stuff, he was obviously involved in something. Does it prove he pulled the trigger? Not neccessarily. As for Brennan, he did not see the shooter, only the rifle. We've dealt with this before. [Amos] Euins was in a better position and had a better view (and younger eyes).

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Colin,

What do you mean Brennan never saw the shooter? Of COURSE Brennan SAW the shooter--and later IDed him as Oswald.

COLIN CROW SAID:

Euins had a better angle to see the shooter.....saw him for longer also.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

But to say Brennan never saw the shooter is just a lie, Colin. Simple as that.

COLIN CROW SAID:

I apologise David, I posted in haste. The inference from your initial post was that Brennan ID'd Oswald as the shooter. I would argue that Brennan could not have ID'd anyone from what he saw in that window at the time of the 3rd shot. So my statement should have read --- Brennan could not have ID'd anyone with certainty from what he saw in those seconds.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

But Brennan didn't ONLY see Oswald in the sniper's window "at the time of the 3rd shot". Brennan saw the shooter (Oswald) in the window "a couple of times" PRIOR to the third shot, giving Brennan MORE TIME to see the shooter (whom he later positively said was Lee Oswald).

"I saw this one man on the sixth floor which left the window to my knowledge a couple of times." -- H.L. Brennan

EDIT: Or do you really want to argue that the "couple of times" Brennan saw Oswald PRIOR to the firing of the third shot, Brennan actually saw someone else and not Oswald? Or vice-versa?

You surely don't want to climb out on that shaky limb, do you Colin?

COLIN CROW SAID:

David, just because you said Oswald was an assassin before 11/22/63 (and he obviously wasn't), I wouldn't call that a lie. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and put it down to either carelessness or ignorance. ;)

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Come now, Colin. I know you know a lot of the witness testimony (probably by heart). And when you said this earlier....

"As for Brennan, he did not see the shooter, only the rifle."

....What was I supposed to think? That statement IS a lie. Plain and simple. You were implying that Brennan was akin to Bob Jackson or Mal Couch (i.e., witnesses who saw ONLY THE GUN, not the "shooter"). And you certainly know better than that.

COLIN CROW SAID:

So, you hold that Brennan's I.D. of Oswald (shaky as it was, but let's not even go there) was based on him seeing someone earlier. This guy did not have a rifle. He assumed that the first guy was the same person with the rifle because they were in the same window. Other people saw 2 people on the 6th Floor as I'm sure you are aware (not Brennan though). It was an understandable assumption from someone in his position, not neccessarily a valid one.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

In an earlier post, I added a paragraph regarding any potential theory of yours about Brennan possibly seeing two different people in the Sniper's Nest window; and I added those comments before I saw your last post confirming that you actually seem to believe that (silly) theory.

COLIN CROW SAID:

David, Do you still think that Oswald was an assassin prior to the death of JFK?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

You don't have to harp on that, Colin. I've since gone back to that post and added two words -- "in effect".

COLIN CROW SAID:

NP [no problem] David, I am not all that easy about editing posts after the event (although I do occasionally, usually in a state of embarrassment to correct my appalling keyboard skills).

To be honest David, my read of Brennan's testimony changed a bit during my analysis of it.

[...]

It may have been one guy or 2 [that Brennan saw in the Sniper's Nest]. He was under enormous pressure and his actions were understandable. I do not think his testimony would have held up in trial. I don't believe he can be used to place Oswald in the window at the time of the last shot.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

And I can understand your reservations regarding Brennan. (Heck, if I were unfortunate enough to be a conspiracy theorist, I too would probably be saying the same things you are saying about Brennan--i.e., he couldn't have possibly positively identified Oswald in that window, etc.)

But the fact remains -- Howard Leslie Brennan DID positively I.D. Lee Oswald as the man he saw firing a rifle at President Kennedy in Dealey Plaza. And conspiracy theorists will just have to live with that FACT. Just as lone-assassin believers like me will have to forever live with the head-scratching fact that many witnesses at Parkland and Bethesda seemed to think that JFK had a great-big hole in the BACK of his head (a hole that was never there, of course, and the authenticated autopsy photos and X-rays prove that there was no hole in the back of the President's head; but that's another discussion altogether).

Yes, it's true that Brennan did not positively identify Oswald as the TSBD gunman ON NOVEMBER 22ND. But he did later state to the Warren Commission a reason for his not doing so. And, IMO, the reason was a perfectly understandable one -- he feared for the life of himself and his family.

Plus, conspiracy theorists often overlook the fact that the same Howard Brennan filled out an official sworn affidavit on November 22, 1963, which includes a description of the sixth-floor assassin....and that description is a pretty decent general description of the "slender white man" named Lee Harvey Oswald.

And I'll also remind you of another witness--Marrion Baker--who also stated that it was his belief that the man he encountered on the 2nd Floor just after the assassination was a man who was "approximately 30 years old", which is an (incorrect) age estimate that perfectly matches the age estimate supplied by Howard Brennan in all of his descriptions over the years for the sixth-floor assassin.

And, of course, we know for a FACT who it was that Baker ran into on the second floor that day--Lee Harvey Oswald.

Anyway, as I also stated in an earlier post which included a nice long laundry list of "Oswald Is Guilty" items, Howard Brennan isn't even needed to hang Oswald for Jack Kennedy's murder. Howard is merely a small layer of icing on an already well-frosted cake.

IN RESPONSE TO ONE OF MY POINTS RELATING TO OSWALD'S GUILT, PAUL DANZIG SAID:

Oswald was in the building when the president was shot....Oh WOW.....Better hang Oswald from the tallest tree.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID (WHILE SIGHING HEAVILY, BECAUSE I KNEW THAT SOME CONSPIRACY THEORIST WAS GOING TO CHASTISE ME FOR JUST THIS VERY THING):

Bulletin! --- In order to shoot someone from INSIDE a certain building, the shooter must be INSIDE that building when the victim is shot!

That particular item on my laundry list was, of course, merely corroborative, fitting in nicely with ALL THAT OTHER STUFF that CTers love to ignore and misrepresent constantly.

Was I supposed to LEAVE OUT the fact that OSWALD was, indeed, inside the building at 12:30 as the President was being killed with OSWALD'S rifle?

Geez.

JFK ASSASSINATION ARGUMENTS
(PART 957)

COLIN CROW SAID:

So, the question is......why is CE399 so deformed when compared to Dr Fackler's bullet? i.e., it's not pristine enough!

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

I love it!

I post a picture [below] of an undeformed bullet [from Dr. Martin Fackler's tests performed in 1992] that broke a human wrist at 1100fps (with its nose perfectly intact, just like CE399)....

....and now I hear this retort from a conspiracy theorist:

"Why is CE399 so deformed when compared to Dr Fackler's bullet? It's not pristine enough!"

So, now the CTers can move the goal posts again when looking at the undeformed Fackler bullet, by claiming (incredibly) that CE399 is DEFORMED TOO MUCH to have caused all the damage it did to John B. Connally's wrist.

Colin, you'd better go have a talk with Dr. Cyril Wecht about your "It's not pristine enough" comment re: CE399. He'd love to hear that, because Dr. Wecht has always fought tooth-and-nail over the fact that CE399 is much too "pristine" to have caused Connally's bony injuries. Maybe Wecht has never seen the Fackler test bullet before.

Anyway, Colin, thanks for today's smile. Just when I think that maybe I've heard it all, I'm treated to a new twist in the JFK case....like Colin Crow saying that Commission Exhibit 399 is "not pristine enough".

I love it!

FACKLER ADDENDUM:

BTW, the reason for Fackler's bullet not being somewhat flattened on one side (like CE399) is probably due to the fact that the test bullet did not hit and break a rib bone. Here's what Dr. Alfred Olivier's test bullet looked like after striking just a "glancing blow" on one rib of a goat:

BTW #2, the Edgewood Arsenal "Wound Ballistics Of 6.5-mm. Mannlicher-Carcano Ammunition" report is very interesting reading. More conspiracy theorists should look at it. Here it is.

Every single test performed between April 1964 and October 1964 by Dr. Olivier and Dr. Dziemian at Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland is consistent with the Warren Commission's ultimate conclusions.

I.E.:

Per the Edgewood Arsenal ballistics tests with Lee Harvey Oswald's rifle, that exact rifle was capable of causing all of the wounds that were inflicted on President Kennedy and Governor Connally on 11/22/63.

Quoting directly from the Edgewood report:

"Experiments were performed with the 6.5-mm Mannlicher-Carcano assassination rifle, serial no. C2766, and 6.5-mm Western Cartridge Company, lot WCC 6000, Mannlicher-Carcano ball ammunition to reproduce the conditions occurring at the time of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on 22 November 1963. The results indicated that the wounds sustained by the President and by Governor Connally, including the massive head wound of the President, could be produced by the above type of bullet and rifle." -- From the Edgewood Arsensal Report, Page 3

COLIN CROW SAID:

David, I was just playing around. Sorry, couldn't resist.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

OK. Fair enough. But with many conspiracy believers, it's often very difficult to tell "tongue-in-cheek" remarks from "dead serious" ones. :)

COLIN CROW SAID:

Good work on the Fritz initials, by the way. What did you make of Audrey [Bell's] audio to the ARRB about the fragments?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Audrey Bell's interview (linked HERE and HERE) with the ARRB's Doug Horne took place on March 20, 1997, more than 33 years after the events she was trying to remember. So that fact must always be taken into account.

But Audrey readily admits that she wrote all kinds of stuff on the outside of the "foreign body" envelope that appears in Commission Exhibit 842. She immediately recognized her writing on that envelope when the ARRB showed it to her in 1997.

So I'm not really sure how far down "Conspiracy Lane" Robert Harris can go with the idea that CE842 is a fraud or a fake document of some kind. Bob obviously wants to believe that there was a SECOND envelope similar to CE842 that existed on the day of the assassination, with this never-found second envelope evidently containing a whole bullet that Harris wants to believe fell out of John Connally's leg in the operating room.

Such a musical envelopes game is, of course, pure speculation on Mr. Harris' part, because there is no credible evidence whatsoever that any whole bullet was retrieved in the operating room and then placed in an envelope. It's nothing but the fanciful wishful thinking of a conspiracy theorist. (IMHO.)

GARRY PUFFER SAID:

NONE of the evidence actually points to Oswald. What seems to point to Oswald could better be interpreted as FRAMING him. Such evidence would look as real as possible, in theory. .... How is it that *you* are able to distinguish evidence planted to make someone look guilty from evidence that genuinely shows a person is guilty?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

What a crock. The same dumb "Everything's Fake To Frame The Patsy" argument can easily be made at EVERY criminal trial in every courtroom in the USA since the beginning of court trials. (And it is an argument that has been made at many trials, i.e., the O.J. Simpson debacle.)

Therefore, why even bother to introduce ANY evidence at ANY trial? All the silly defense has to do is say to the jury....

ALL OF THIS EVIDENCE HAS BEEN PLANTED. WE CAN'T *KNOW* IT WASN'T PLANTED. SO THE DEFENDANT WALKS.

And a solid "chain of possession" doesn't keep the evidence from being fake. Because the "chain" could be faked just as easily as the evidence itself, right?

Therefore, per Puffer's rules, NO case in history can possibly ever be solved, because all the evidence in all cases could have conceivably been faked.

(And CTers say LNers are lost sheeple?? Oy vey.)

JFK ASSASSINATION ARGUMENTS
(PART 1066)

PAUL DANZIG SAID:

Why do you Honestly think Oswald went to the movie theater?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

To get off the sunlit streets and into a place where he thought he could temporarily hide from the cops that he obviously knew were chasing the man who killed Officer Tippit.

Duh.

PAUL DANZIG SAID:

What do you think was Oswald's plan after the movie theater?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

He had no "plan" at that point. That fact is obvious. He was winging it. He knew he had been seen by multiple witnesses shooting Tippit. He was trying to buy a little time by slipping into the dark theater (which, fortunately for him, was right there on Jefferson Boulevard for him to use as a temporary "hideout"; whether Oswald knew ahead of time that the theater was there or not, we can never know for certain).

PAUL DANZIG SAID:

He had no plan....So taking the rifle to the TSBD is no plan...

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Oswald had a plan to kill the President. That's obvious. But it certainly wasn't an extended plan, and it certainly wasn't a plan that was thought out a long time in advance. That's obvious too, since he couldn't have known about the motorcade driving right past his workplace until the morning of 11/19/63, at the earliest.

But his escape "plan", if he even had one fixed in his warped mind, sucked.

PAUL DANZIG SAID:

The distance between the Tippit killing and the theatre IS no walk in the park. There were no other places to hide in the surrounding area.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Is that last sentence supposed to be a question?

Anyway, Oswald's escape plan definitely lacked preparation. But, so what? How does a crappy escape plan erase the evidence of his guilt in the two 11/22/63 murders?

PAUL DANZIG SAID:

To have a plan to kill the president and no EXIT plan doesn't makes sense.

Supposedly he was smart enough to climb down from the 6th floor in 90 seconds and be spotted by Baker, NOT OUT OF BREATH I MIGHT ADD.

You make Oswald out to [be] a smart person before the shooting, but a dumbass after.

JUGGLING ACT IS FOR THE CIRCUS.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Wasn't it a shame that Oswald wasn't nice enough to plan his murder of JFK in a manner that would better suit the conspiracy theorists of the world?

The willy-nilly, nearly-last-minute effort on Oswald's part is good circumstantial evidence that NO PRE-PLANNED CONSPIRACY existed in this case at all.

Naturally, all CTers want to believe otherwise (i.e., they wish to pretend that Oswald was framed and apparently ALL of the mountain of physical evidence against him was planted).

In other words, what we have in this topsy-turvy world of conspiracy promoters is this:

The conspiracy theorists actually have the guts to argue that since all of the evidence points toward Lee Harvey Oswald, this therefore means that OSWALD IS INNOCENT!

Talk about turning logic upside-down. The CTers are experts at doing just that in this case, and they always have been, all the way back to Mark Lane's early efforts in the 1960s to try and get a double-killer named Oswald off the hook.

COLIN CROW SAID:

2 things come to mind, David.

First....Mike [Williams], who is an authority on ballistics and weapons, tells us that the rifle would have to have been sighted in or practiced with to ensure accuracy after its return from New Orleans.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Pure speculation, of course. And it's meaningless speculation.

How come?

Because we KNOW that Oswald's C2766 Mannlicher-Carcano rifle was the murder weapon. There's no doubt about that proven fact.

COLIN CROW SAID:

Yet Oswald did not know of the parade route until 11/19/63. So was it him, seen at the Sports D[r]ome on more than one occasion, practicing in anticipation of the visit but unaware of the exact route? Or was it someone else who looked like him?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Probably somebody who looked like him.

But even if it was Oswald -- so what? Who cares? What does it prove or disprove?

I'll tell you one thing that it WOULD prove, however (if that person whom Garland Slack saw WAS Lee Oswald) -- it would prove that the conspiracy theorists are dead wrong about something else -- i.e., their theory that Oswald never practiced at all with his Carcano prior to the assassination.

COLIN CROW SAID:

Second....Was Oswald's escape plan really that crappy?

Admittedly, how could he know it would take as long as 20 minutes or so for them to find the SN [Sniper's Nest], even though the DP [Dallas Police] has witnesses who described its exact location within minutes of the shooting?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

So, you're a mind-reader now, eh? You somehow KNOW that Oswald knew it would take "as long as 20 minutes" for the police to find the Sniper's Nest?

What in the world makes you think that Oswald was thinking any such thing?

COLIN CROW SAID:

Let's face it, if it were not for the acutely observant supercop Tippit, the super observant Brewer and some sirens and cars, Oswald would have been free and possibly able to get across the border to Mexico. Then to Cuba.

What do you think?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Could be. That's quite possible indeed.

But, so what? What are you implying here? Are you saying that the "acutely observant supercop" named J.D. Tippit and the "super observant" shoe store manager named Johnny Calvin Brewer were NOT really "acutely observant" and "super observant" on November 22, 1963?

Are you saying we should all be suspicious and skeptical about the things Mr. Tippit and Mr. Brewer did on that day in Dallas? If so, why?

Brewer, IMO, was a real hero that day. (So was Ted Callaway. Can you imagine actually having the balls to take the gun from under a dead policeman's body and use it to try and track down the murderer YOURSELF before the police arrived on the scene? Incredible. And brave. Of course, some CTers think Callaway is nothing but a rotten liar too. But such is the way with conspiracy kooks.)

JFK ASSASSINATION ARGUMENTS
(PART 942)

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

The only thing Martin Hinrichs did is to slide JFK to the right in that photo [below]. That's all. Nothing else. Big deal.

So, what is that supposed to prove? Especially since we all know that JFK was sitting three inches higher than Connally.

Connally is also much more "scrunched up" in that awful jump seat that he had to sit on during the Dallas motorcade, giving the false impression that JBC was smaller than he really was.

Just take a look at this photograph of the SS-100-X limousine and imagine the large frame of John Connally sitting on this jump seat. Heck, he was practically sitting on the car's floorboard:

MARK HENCEROTH SAID:

Yeah, I don't see why we need a 3D animation at all really. This is easy stuff. Apparently no professional 3D expert is willing to take the job on of showing us exactly where that shot came from. Too bad, as I am sure we would all like to know how it ends up.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Seeing as how the only shots came from Oswald's sixth-floor window in the Book Depository (and the wounds on both victims--not to mention the THREE spent bullet shell casings found right underneath Oswald's window--fully bear this out) -- the only place any accurately rendered 3D animation could conclude the shots came from is the sixth floor of the TSBD.

More CTers ought to read how detailed and accurate Dale Myers' animation truly is. For Pete sake, he used the actual blueprints of the TSBD, Dealey Plaza, and the limousine! How much more accurate could anyone hope to get?

Read:
http://jfkfiles.com/jfk/html/models.htm

COLIN CROW SAID:

You have to appreciate the significance of changes to both men [in Dale Myers' computer animation]. Particularly the downsizing of JBC (or upsizing of JFK).

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

The difference in the sizes of the two victims (JFK & JBC), in real life, wasn't all that much. Kennedy was 6-feet, 0.5-inch tall (72.5 inches). Connally was apparently 6-feet-2. (I'm relying on unconfirmed CT reports on his height, which probably isn't a good idea for ANYTHING, but the 6'2" figure sounds about right.)

Plus: Dale Myers' animation was originally done without any of the facial features or other physical characteristics of the victims being included in his model. It was a "wireframe" version of the model that Myers started with in 1995. He later added the clothing and all of the physical/facial features to his animation, just to make it look nicer. But those physical features, for the most part, are meaningless and not required at all.

In addition, as Myers himself has told his critics in the past, you could literally REMOVE the limousine from the animation too. It wouldn't make a bit of difference if the two victims were faceless blobs of animated clay and it wouldn't matter a bit if the Lincoln limousine was eliminated entirely. The computer still knew the most important details (based on the fact the animation was "key framed" to the Zapruder Film itself) -- the trajectory of the bullets and the two "blobs" (victims) in the path of those two bullets.

COLIN CROW SAID:

Did you say Z-Axis did the proofing on this?

Does Z mean ZZZZzzzzzZZZZzzzz?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

I didn't say it. Dale Myers did. I was quoting Myers.

Are you saying Z-Axis is a crappy outfit, Colin?

If not, then what's your point of bringing up Z-Axis at all?

COLIN CROW SAID:

How do we explain a "gross inaccuracy" in the car.....using scale models and all?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

There is no "gross inaccuracy", Colin. That's merely an allegation coming from conspiracy theorists (like you) who think you can achieve TO-THE-INCH, 3D accuracy when looking at flat 2D photos and screen captures.

You surely aren't implying that YOU know more about computer animation and photogrammetry than Dale K. Myers....are you Colin?

JFK ASSASSINATION ARGUMENTS
(PART 941)

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

I challenge anyone to look at the Zapruder Film clip below a few times in a row and arrive at the following conclusion:

There's NO WAY that President Kennedy and Governor Connally were struck by the same bullet! No way!

Anyone who could utter the above words after watching this Z-Film segment must either be blind or closely related to Oliver Stone:

Plus, the following clip from the Zapruder Film is always worth posting several times a day. It's a moving two-frame picture of a man named John Connally who is IN DISTRESS at Z225.

Now, considering the fact that that same man (John B. Connally Jr.) was shot in the upper back by a bullet at just about this exact same time in Dealey Plaza, what are the odds of this reaction being displayed by Mr. Connally being the result of SOMETHING ELSE BESIDES THE RIFLE BULLET THAT HIT HIM IN THE UPPER BACK AT ALMOST THIS EXACT SAME INSTANT ON NOVEMBER 22, 1963?:

COLIN CROW SAID:

I would tend to agree with you, David. You make a reasonable case. The problem for you is that there is no way that Connally's [right] armpit is to the left of JFK's midline. Connally is not far enough to the left of the jumpseat or twisted to the right for alignment to occur. So a win for the single bullet. But it was not fired from the TSBD.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

You're wrong, Colin:

The above image is based almost exclusively on THE SAME FILM that conspiracy theorist Colin Crow says is showing John Connally too far to JFK's right when the SBT occurred. Dale Myers has done computerized "key framing" in order to synchronize the Zapruder Film to his 3D computer animation.

In other words -- What we see in the above "From The Sniper's Nest" image is exactly what Abraham Zapruder would have seen and filmed with his Bell & Howell camera if he had been taking his movie from the Sniper's Nest on the sixth floor of the Book Depository.

Myers' entire computer model is LOCKED IN to the Zapruder Film, regardless of the particular angle we are looking at at any particular time. The 3D computer imagery allows us to leave Zapruder's pedestal and look at the limousine and the victims from any vantage point in Dealey Plaza--including the above POV through Oswald's rifle in the Sniper's Nest.

And Connally's right armpit area is perfectly in line to accept Bullet CE399 at Z-Frame 224 after that bullet exits John Kennedy's throat. Myers has the crosshairs aimed a little bit too low on JFK's back in the above image, however. The entry wound in Kennedy's back wasn't quite that low, as we can easily see here:

And for additional SBT confirmation (of a more "low tech" variety), we've got my all-time favorite Warren Commission exhibit--CE903--which is an exhibit that I never get tired of talking about, mainly due to the fact that this single photograph taken on May 24, 1964, by the FBI's Lyndal Shaneyfelt totally destroys the persistent myth spouted by conspiracy theorists that has the evil Warren boys deliberately misrepresenting the location of JFK's upper-back wound in order to support the SBT.

But such an allegation/myth is just simply not true, and it NEVER WAS, as CE903 clearly illustrates -- because Arlen's Specter pointer is NOT being placed in the "neck" of the JFK stand-in here. In fact, if Specter had moved the metal rod UP INTO THE NECK of the stand-in--and still maintained the 17.72-degree downward angle of the rod that was required in order to approximate the angle leading back to Oswald's window (subtracting the 3.15-degree street grade of Elm Street for this picture in CE903, since the car here wasn't sitting on a street with a 3.15-degree slope to it)--it would have meant that the exit point for the bullet would have been around JFK's chin, instead of the correct "tie knot" exit location....

COLIN CROW SAID:

Hi David, is Dale [Myers] able to show us this [SBT] frame from the Zapruder position? That would resolve the issue. I would be convinced then. If it's a true 3D model, it should be possible. Until then, I'll be convinced by the vision of Jackie's pink sleeve. You can see it quite clearly in the graphics you posted. I have used correctly scaled versions of JFK and JBC in their positions over the HSCA scale model [see the image below; click to enlarge it]. Both men had similar shoulder widths. That was the problem with Dale Myers' image overhead. JFK's shoulders were 25% wider than JBC. Grossly inaccurate.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Yes, Colin, I would certainly think that such a view would be available via Dale Myers' computer animation.

Here's a freeze-frame screen capture taken from Dale Myers' DVD preview. This image would equal Z-Frame 225:

Myers was supposed to release his "Secrets Of A Homicide" animation on DVD. On his website, Dale still says it is "planned for the near future".

I'd very much like to see more of Dale's animation, with the interactive ability to be able to see the Z-Film frames from a variety of different perspectives in Dealey Plaza. Hopefully it will come out on DVD sometime down the road (maybe for the 50th anniversary).

DAVID VON PEIN LATER SAID:

Allow me to take this opportunity to post a few important comments concerning Dale Myers' 3D computer model ("Secrets Of A Homicide: JFK Assassination"). The following comments come from Dale Myers himself in 2008, in response to criticism about various aspects of his computer animation, which was criticism that was coming from two conspiracy theorists in particular--Pat Speer and Robert Harris.

I'm quite sure that none of this information imparted by Mr. Myers is going to be believed by any hardline conspiracists of Planet Earth, but I felt the need to provide Mr. Myers with at least a little bit of "equal time" here in this thread at the JFK Assassination Forum, as some of these things being discussed by Myers below relate to the material in this forum thread:

Con Job: Debunking the Debunkers
by DALE K. MYERS

http://jfkfiles.blogspot.com/2008/05/con-job-debunking-debunkers.html

"It’s been thirteen years since I released my preliminary computer-generated JFK assassination reconstruction and five years since an updated version was broadcast world-wide, although you’d never know it given the frequency with which the History and Discovery Channels re-broadcast the two programs my work appeared in.

And consequently it’s no wonder that conspiracy theorists continue to hammer at my work in the hopes of convincing mainstream America that my computer reconstruction is nothing more than a carefully constructed sham designed to further a supposed cover-up in the murder of President Kennedy.

The newest crop of debunkers push their warped ideas about my work with graphic illustrations and self-produced YouTube videos which purport to show the “obvious” lies and distortions these theorists have supposedly discovered among sequences of my work aired by the History and Discovery Channels.

One of the more vocal and equally off-base debunkers is Patrick J. Speer, a self-acknowledged wanna-be poet, turned wanna-be-musician, turned record buyer for the music industry who eventually became “obsessed with recent American history.”

Mr. Speer’s graphic intensive website promises “a new perspective on the Kennedy assassination” and while some newcomers to the subject may be impressed with the eye-candy, there’s nothing really there that rises above the same old, tired arguments and misinformation kicked around by conspiracy theorists for better than four decades.

It’s the same old shoe with new laces.

There are plenty of identical websites that offer up the same kind of misinformation for those who don’t know any better and if visitors to these kinds of websites are willing to get their facts about American history from wanna-be poets and the like, who am I to spoil the party?

In fact, I’ve largely avoided confronting this army of wackiness, outside of addressing a few of their more frequent allegations, because doing so proves time and again to represent a colossal waste of time.

It doesn’t take long to figure out that one could waste a lifetime attempting to hammer a little common sense into these people who for one obsessive reason or another find it their calling to opine about something they know very little about, or in the case of Mr. Speer, know absolutely nothing about.

I’m referring of course to the multitude of vile and reckless charges concerning my computer reconstruction of the Kennedy assassination which are featured as part of Mr. Speer’s “new perspective” on the case.

Utilizing screen grabs lifted from the two television programs I participated in, Mr. Speer pretends to debunk my work using graphic overlays that break every rule of photogrammetry accompanied by childish headlines like Dale Myers’ House of Mirrors; Murder by Cartoon; and Cutting the Crap.

I pointed out Mr. Speer’s photographic follies on my FAQ page over three years ago (without using his name in order to save him embarrassment), yet Speer continues to use the same deceptive photographic techniques to – get this – claim that he has evidence of my deception.

For instance, Speer uses overlays of images taken from two different angles and claims that because they don’t align I am being deceptive; or, Speer draws lines of trajectory on a two-dimensional image of a three-dimensional scene and claims that because the two-dimensional line doesn’t line up with the three-dimensional scene (an impossibility due to the basic rules of photogrammetry) that I am being deceptive.

Forget about convincing Mr. Speer that one cannot draw a rational conclusion from an irrational premise; I’ve tried. Suffice it to say that Mr. Speer prefers to live in a land of illusion where physical realities don’t hold a candle to obsessive conspiracy theories.

I’m not going to spend a lot of time here pointing out the ridiculous nature of each and every one of Mr. Speer’s goofy assertions. But here are just two to make the point, as well as the truth of the matter:

Charge: Myers shrunk the model of Governor Connally and his jumpseat 25% in order to get the single bullet theory to work.

Truth: Mr. Speer used a frame grab from the Discovery Channel’s “Beyond the Magic Bullet” to make his point, but failed to note that the image he used was taken from a portion of the program in which my computer work was being displayed on a computer monitor which was at a significant angle to the camera – the effect being that the computer images of Kennedy and Connally were compressed horizontally and consequently the Connally image appeared smaller than the actual model.

When Mr. Speer was informed that wide-angle sequences from the Discovery program showed the relationship of the computer monitor to the program camera (and therefore the fallacy of his argument), he wrote on his website, “I must admit I did not realize this footage was shot at an angle. I mean, why would they do that?” Believe it or not, Mr. Speer than proceeded to claim that the producers of the program and I conspired to deceive viewers (and presumably the hapless Mr. Speer) about the true alignment of the single bullet theory by purposely shooting the monitor on an angle!

In a recent post on the UK’s Education Forum, Mr. Speer writes, “No one to my knowledge, including Myers, until this response, had ever suggested the images were distorted because the animation – the animation shown round the world to convince people the single-bullet trajectories worked, mind you – was shot at an angle from a computer monitor.”

Mr. Speer doesn’t seem to understand that in the real world there is no need to acknowledge something that is self evident – namely, that Discovery Channel viewers were watching a presentation being given from a vantage point that was not perpendicular to the presentation screen. This is obvious from the Discovery program sequences that show a wide-angle view of the studio in which the presentation was being given. Mr. Speer failed to note that fact and now claims that the Discovery Channel and yours truly conspired to deceive everyone about the single bullet theory.

Can it get any sillier? I’m afraid it can.

According to Mr. Speer, “By admitting the images used in the program were distorted, Myers is as much as admitting that his whole presentation in 2004's Beyond the Magic Bullet was irrelevant. No, it's actually much worse. Since the program's creators added a trajectory angle onto Myers' distorted figures that lined up perfectly with their wounds, Myers is as much as admitting that the single-bullet theory--which he set out to prove some years ago--and which he calls the 'single-bullet fact,' does not work on undistorted figures.”

The so-called distortions Mr. Speer refers to are of course the unintended result of the Discovery Channel photographing the presentation monitor at an angle and have nothing to do with the alignments depicted in the actual images appearing on the monitor. And the trajectory path superimposed over the videotaped sequence by Discovery editors after the fact has no more relevance or accuracy to the images below it (other than to illustrate, in very broad terms, the path of the bullet) than Mr. Speer’s own attempts to project two-dimensional lines into three-dimensional space.

It’s unfathomable to me that anyone could swallow Mr. Speer’s illogical rationale for dismissing the breadth of my work on the single bullet theory, but in the world of conspiracy theorists bent on embracing anyone and anything critical of the single bullet theory, such idiocy is common place. (The UK’s Education Forum’s administrator, John Simkin, applauded Speer writing, “Congratulations. I am sure all members have been very impressed with your work in this area.”)

Charge: Myers misplaces Connally’s jumpseat in order to ensure the alignment of the single bullet theory.

Truth: The location of the jumpseat has no bearing on the alignment of any trajectory plotted in my computer reconstruction. The figures of JFK and JBC were matched to the Zapruder film perspective, not to the location of the jumpseat. Frankly, you could eliminate the entire limousine from the reconstruction and the alignments of JFK and JBC would still be valid since their position in space is based on Zapruder's view of the scene and the relationship of JFK to JBC, and their combined relationship to the TSBD and the surrounding buildings. In short, the position and size of the jumpseat has no bearing on the single bullet theory.

All of this means little to Mr. Speers who now writes, “As he is now asserting that the limousine model had nothing to do with his positioning of Connally, only measurements taken from the Zapruder film, I decided to put the seat in the correct location on Myers' undistorted over-view, and see how it matched up with Connally….”

Does it matter that Mr. Speer cannot really move the jumpseat to the “correct” location within my computer rendering (i.e., move a two-dimensional image in three-dimensional space)? Apparently not, because Mr. Speer then proceeds to once again break the Cardinal Rule of photogrammetry (i.e., draw two-dimensional lines on a three-dimensional image) to “demonstrate” that Connally doesn’t align with the single bullet trajectory, concluding, “Myers undoubtedly knows this. Which fuels my suspicion that the distorted animation used in ‘Beyond the Magic Bullet’ was no ‘mistake’.”

Mr. Speer further complains that the animated sequence I produced in which Connally is shown sitting inboard of Kennedy by six inches is equally deceptively because it shows Connally and the jumpseat moving in unison. I explained in a recent email that Connally and the jumpseat were moved as one for clarity.

According to Mr. Speer, “This is as good as a confession that Myers knew the jumpseat was not 6 inches in from the door when he created animation showing it to be 6 inches from the door… I wonder how many [millions of viewers] would feel deceived to find out that Connally's sitting comfortably in the middle of his seat was merely a Myers invention designed to ‘clarify’ things for them? Some might call this an out-and-out fraud perpetrated on the public.”

I don’t know how many ways to say it, but Connally was situated six inches inboard of Kennedy at the time they were both hit. Connally’s jumpseat, however, was fixed to a track in the floor of the limousine, the outside edge of the jumpseat cushion measured at 2.5 inches from the inside door panel, according to body drafts produced by Hess & Eisenhardt Company.

To demonstrate the difference between a rather common (and inaccurate) drawing purporting to show Connally seated directly in front of Kennedy at the time of the single bullet shot and their actual positions as deduced from the Zapruder film and other photographs, the models of Connally and the jumpseat were moved as a single unit during presentations for ABC News and the Discovery Channel.

The relationship between Connally and the jumpseat are identical in both positions. Moving Connally and the jumpseat in unison was simply easier than moving the two separately given the television time available – especially given the fact that the position of the jumpseat had absolutely no bearing on the single bullet theory.

But for Mr. Speer, focusing on inconsequential minutia is better than acknowledging his own obvious mistakes in photographic analysis and logic. It also allows him to play the marytyr for his fellow conspiracy theorists and pretend he has actually proven something, writing, “While I've given Myers a hard time, and have received a substantial amount of abuse in return, I believe Myers' acknowledgment of the failure of his animation to demonstrate the single-bullet theory, was probably worth it. Now we can all stop pretending the alignment of Kennedy and Connally, and thus the likelihood of the single-bullet theory, has been ‘proven’.”

One can only feel sorry for Mr. Speer after reading such nonsense. The only one being conned by such addled thinking is Mr. Speer himself who despite all efforts is determined to prove just how thick-headed conspiracy theorists can truly be.

Anyone who wants to pretend my reconstruction work is false or doesn't matter is free to do so. As I’ve said before, in the final analysis, the truth doesn't require anyone's belief.

I don't respond to posts on the many Internet newsgroups because of the sophomoric nature of the vast majority of the postings (and I know many respected experts on the assassination who feel the same way). It is the insipid name-calling and disrespect for honest research and work that I (and others) find the most appalling. It is worse than a kindergarten sandbox.

Too bad. The Internet promised to bring people of common interests together. Instead, it gives a global soap box and a megaphone to those who have the least amount to say.

On occasion, I feel the need to defend my work against these childish armchair detectives if only to plant a little sanity in a field of nonsense. Unfortunately, whenever I speak up, it only seems to bring more nuts out of the woodwork for yet another round.

It's a never ending cycle of lunacy; one ridiculous argument after another to see who can be the top fool.

Congratulations, Mr. Speer! You’re tops with me."

YouTube Pied Pipers
by DALE K. MYERS

http://jfkfiles.blogspot.com/2008/08/youtube-pied-pipers.html

"I’ve gotten more than one email in the last few days asking about a video posted on YouTube over the weekend claiming to debunk my computer animation work on the validity of the single bullet theory.

This latest video posting, entitled “Dale Myers or Voodoo Geometry 101,” arrives courtesy of conspiracy advocate Robert Harris who manages to prove how little he knows about my computer work, photography and geometric relations, and the Kennedy assassination in general in less than six minutes.

The crux of Mr. Harris’ argument is that yours truly (that’s me) falsified the geometric positions of Kennedy and Connally in order to make it appear that the single bullet theory was valid and that the single bullet shot traced back to Lee Harvey Oswald’s firing position on the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository. In short, according to Mr. Harris, my computer work is a transparent lie.

Never mind that Mr. Harris’ charges have been made numerous times in the past by equally ignorant detractors and rebutted in detail on my own website (see, FAQ: Computer Reconstruction of the JFK Assassination) and here in this forum (see, Con Job: Debunking the Debunkers).

The modern day pied pipers of the YouTube generation count on the short attention spans and general ignorance of their audience to sell their own brand of snake-oil and promote themselves as reliable purveyors of truth via video on the Internet.

Of course, anyone can point a webcam at their own mug a pretend to be someone of knowledge and responsibility. Hence, the wisdom of the ancient axiom, “You get what you pay for.”

In this case, those who buy Mr. Harris’ free offerings are getting a pig in a poke.

For instance, Mr. Harris makes the foolish claim that he can measure a two dimensional still frame of a computer rendering of the presidential limousine and its occupants (as culled from the Discovery Channel program, “Beyond the Magic Bullet”) and determine the angle of a three-dimensional trajectory from the sniper’s nest.

Apparently Mr. Harris never heard of (or understands) the underlying principle of photogrammetry, which in essence shows that it is impossible to project three dimensional lines in space onto two dimensional photographs without taking into account the location and angle of both known vantage points. By some wizardry unknown to human science, Mr. Harris is able to do both.

Conspiracy guru Jack White found out the lessons of photogrammetry the hard way when he took a beating in 1978 while trying to convince the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) that multiple press photographs of Oswald’s Mannlicher-Carcano rifle depicted multiple rifles of differing lengths. The “proof” Mr. White offered of the multiple rifle cover-up were measurements he made on two-dimensional press photographs.

As the HSCA photograph experts called to rebut Mr. White rightly pointed out, the former advertising photographer failed to take into account the relationship between the camera making the photograph and the tilt of the rifle in three dimensional space. In fact, White had never heard of the principle of photogrammetry.

Apparently, Mr. Harris never heard of Jack White’s boo-boo, because he makes the same error. And he makes it more than once.

For instance, Mr. Harris claims that a comparison of a photograph of the presidential limousine made early in the parade route with a computer rendering of my limousine model shows that “Myers has jammed the two men much more closely together than they really were.” Mr. Harris claims that the distance between the back seat where the president was seated and Governor Connally’s jumpseat were compressed in my computer model by “a little over fifty percent.”

What is the evidence for the charge that I manipulated the dimensions of the limousine to better serve the single bullet theory?

Mr. Harris offers nothing more that his own self-proclaimed expertise at visually aligning two different photographs made from two completely different angles in three dimensional space – a virtual impossibility – along with an unsupported declarative statement: “There is no way JFK’s legs could have been up against the back of Connally’s car seat.”

In fact, Mr. Harris’ credibility on this last point is effectively destroyed by the existence of numerous photographs taken throughout the motorcade (a photograph on the back dust jacket of Bill Sloan’s JFK: Breaking the Silence to name one) which shows exactly the opposite to be true – Kennedy’s knees were comparatively tight to the back of Connally’s jump seat.

In addition, Mr. Harris’ claim that “when the House Select Committee on Assassinations depicted the victims they had to move Connally considerably [more] to his left” than he appeared to be in other photographs suggests that Mr. Harris doesn’t know that the HSCA Photographic Panel mistakenly based Connally’s position on a line of sight as seen in a photograph made by Hugh Betzner and that the HSCA analysis failed to take into account the fact that Connally’s right shoulder was below Betzner’s line of sight (as proven by the Altgens’ photograph) and hence Connally might have been seated further right than the HSCA believed. My three dimensional analysis of the Zapruder film bears this fact out.

Most importantly, Mr. Harris states, “The next scene from [Mr. Myers’] presentation includes an amazing sleight of hand or pixels or whatever. Watch closely folks, as Mr. Myers tries to hide the evidence of his deception by slipping the victims back into a proper position.”

Here, Mr. Harris shows a clip from the Discovery program which features my computer work in which the moment of the single bullet is shown in wireframe and in solid form as the camera circles the limousine and its occupants.

Mr. Harris then adds this, “Okay, notice two things here. First the car and the background are all wireframes. Also, he still has Kennedy and Connally close together, so that 18 degree bullet trajectory looks pretty reasonable. But as the car rotates, notice that something happens. The wireframes disappear and right in the middle of the rotation, Mr. Myers switches to a totally different video. In this video he positions President Kennedy and Governor Connally correctly.”

What Mr. Harris doesn’t know is that the two renderings (wireframe and solid form) depict the same model.

That’s right folks, the wireframe model that he claims has been “jammed together” in order to mislead the American public and perpetuate the cover-up, is the exact same model (and in the same position) as the solid form model which Mr. Harris says depicts Kennedy and Connally correctly.

For you tech junkies, the model of the single bullet moment was simply rendered in a 360 degree rotational view multiple times with a variety of surface settings (wireframe, solids, etc.), and then combined with simple dissolves pulled between the various layers.

At the end of his presentation, Mr. Harris proudly boasts, “People like Myers have been playing this same game for years, misconstruing the positions of the President and Governor Connally to make it appear that the shot was fired from the sixth floor of the depository. But the angles from there just don’t work.”

Of course, the only game players in this case are the conspiracy diehards like Mr. Harris who refuse to accept the reality of what happened in Dealey Plaza and prefer instead to prey on the young and naïve who are more than happy to follow any video pied piper willing to tell them whatever they want to hear about the Kennedy assassination – truth be damned."

DALE MYERS ADDED THIS RELATED COMMENT TO HIS BLOG ON
AUGUST 25, 2008:

"Part of the process of aligning the model with the film involved creating a frame-by-frame match of the wireframe models to the Zapruder film. This alignment sequence has been seen by a number of individuals including the team from Z-Axis Corporation who vetted the process.

Other points of view matching other films and still images were also created during the reconstruction process.

I have not made these sequences available on the Internet due to copyright restrictions.

While making these sequences available would certainly aid those having a tough time visualizing in three dimensions, I don't believe the die hard conspiracy crowd would be among them."

April 26, 2010

BONNIE RAY WILLIAMS AND
THE CHICKEN BONES

TONY FRATINI SAID:

BRW [Bonnie Ray Williams] was snacking on his chicken lunch and drinking a soda pop within the SN [Sniper's Nest].

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Dead wrong. Why are you making this stuff up about Bonnie Ray?

TONY FRATINI SAID:

How do you think the assassin got BRW to "vacate" the SN?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

No need for it, because BRW was never INSIDE the SN at any time on 11/22/63. And there's no testimony to that effect from Bonnie Ray Williams at all. So why did you say it?

COLIN CROW SAID:

The consolidated evidence indicates BRW lied and spent time before vacating the SN leaving his chicken sandwich unfinished.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Beautiful. One more "liar" to add to a CTer's list. What a surprise. Everybody's a liar except Lee Harvey.

COLIN CROW SAID:

Who moved the chicken twice, David? If BRW is truthful it goes from the two wheeler to the SN and back to the two wheeler.

BRW did not vacate his position until just a few minutes before the shots. Why not take his uneaten chicken with him?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

I doubt there was ever any chicken bones right AT or IN the Sniper's Nest. Or on the SN boxes. The chicken bones and lunch sack and Dr. Pepper bottle were further WEST, where Bonnie Ray Williams said he ate lunch.

I think Luke Mooney was incorrect [as were some other police officers] about the precise location where the bones were found. There's also confusion over the FIFTH or SIXTH floor for the chicken remnants, as Tom Alyea and Gerald Hill discuss in this 1993 video....

TONY FRATINI SAID:

Here we go - now DVP is moving the chicken lunch sack and the chicken bones! We know that [Gerald] Hill stuck his head out of the correct floor with the lunch sack/piece of chicken in his hand. It was Hill who initially moved the evidence from the boxes behind the SN.

[Quoting Jim Ewell's words as they appear in Larry Sneed's book] "No More Silence"....

"Jerry Hill worked his way up to the sixth floor, leaned out an open window, and he had what was thought to be Oswald’s little fried chicken lunch. It was in a little pop box. Jerry was holding that box and holding up one of the chicken bones exclaiming to everybody that listened to him down on the street that the fried chicken was what he had been eating. About that time there was a commotion around one of the squad cars, and we could hear a radio saying that an officer had been shot in Oak Cliff."

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

I'm not "moving" the chicken bones to the fifth floor. Tom Alyea does that in that 1993 video. He's certain there were bones on the fifth floor. And maybe there were. I'm not sure.

But Bonnie Ray certainly never said he left any bones on any boxes....

Mr. BALL. Where did you put the bones?
Mr. WILLIAMS. I don't remember exactly, but I think I put some of them back in the sack. Just as I was ready to go I threw the sack down.
Mr. BALL. What did you do with the sack?
Mr. WILLIAMS. I think I just dropped it there.
Mr. BALL. Anywhere near the two-wheeler?
Mr. WILLIAMS. I think it was.

Also....

From Vince Bugliosi's book....

[Quote On:]

"During a search of the sixth floor after the assassination, a detective for the Crime Scene Search Section of the Dallas Police Department found a lunch bag with chicken bones, a piece of waxed paper, and a little piece of Fritos in it in front of the “third” double-window over from the southeasternmost window on the sixth floor of the Book Depository Building. He also found a Dr. Pepper bottle nearby. (7 H 146, WCT Robert Lee Studebaker; CD 1245, p.84, FBI interview of Robert Studebaker on May 29, 1964)

Since Bonnie Williams had chicken, Fritos, and a Dr. Pepper for lunch at that exact place, that should have been the end of it. Lieutenant J. C. Day dusted the Dr. Pepper bottle for fingerprints, and no prints of Oswald’s were found. When Day later found out the food and drink had belonged to Williams, he decided the lunch bag and Dr. Pepper bottle had no value to the case and threw the sack and bottle away. (CD 1245, p.83)

Not so fast, said conspiracy theorist Sylvia Meagher, who said that since Day “saw no need to check the empty bottle for fingerprints other than Oswald’s, we will never know if fingerprints were on the bottle, or whose they were.” And even though Studebaker, whose job it was to search the sixth floor, saw the food and drink next to the third double-window over, and several other witnesses said they saw them in the same place (e.g., 6 H 330–331, WCT William H. Shelley), and Williams himself said that’s where he ate his lunch, Meagher proceeded to cite other witnesses who said they saw food elsewhere, for example, Luke Mooney (3 H 288–289), who said he saw a piece of chicken on top of the boxes surrounding the sniper’s nest. (Meagher, Accessories after the Fact, pp.39–41)

Other than her and her colleagues’ insatiable passion for pointing out normal (not to them) inconsistencies in the recollections of witnesses, nowhere does Meagher tell her readers what the relevance of these inconsistencies was. Was it her point that Williams was lying, that the chicken eater was the assassin in the sniper’s nest (who wasn’t, Meagher would assure us, Oswald), or Williams was not lying, but the assassin in the sniper’s nest was also eating chicken while he waited to kill the president?

I wish the theorists would tell us the relevance of the many inconsistencies they cite in the Kennedy case instead of feeling that the inconsistencies are an end in themselves and nothing else has to be shown or argued."
-- Vincent Bugliosi; Page 23 of Endnotes in "Reclaiming History"

DAVID VON PEIN LATER SAID:

The physical evidence isn't lying (even though most Internet conspiracy theorists think the evidence against Oswald is telling one lie after another) --- that evidence is telling us who shot President Kennedy. And it wasn't a black man. It was Lee Harvey Oswald.

And when it comes to Bonnie Ray Williams' testimony in front of the Warren Commission, I really can't see why he would feel any need to want to start making up stories and telling lies about his exact whereabouts on 11/22/63 --- because it wasn't Bonnie Ray's rifle that was found in the Book Depository. And Bonnie Ray's prints weren't found all over the interior of the Sniper's Nest and on a certain empty brown paper bag in that same Nest.

And Bonnie Ray is certainly cleared as being a GUNMAN in the assassination, because we know he was photographed on the FIFTH FLOOR by Tom Dillard within seconds of the shots being fired at JFK. So Dillard's photo clears Williams in that respect (as an actual participant as a GUNMAN, that is).

And Bonnie Ray also knows that he's got two "alibi" witnesses -- Harold Norman and James Jarman -- who were both with Williams on the fifth floor at the exact time of the assassination. So why does Bonnie Ray Williams NEED to lie---about anything? IMO, he didn't NEED to lie at all. Hence, it's my opinion he did not lie in his testimony.

And even if Bonnie Ray DID leave a chicken bone on top of one of the boxes that surrounded Oswald's Sniper's Nest, I can't really see why that fact is critical when it comes to trying to solve the Kennedy assassination. I mean, even if Bonnie Ray was walking around the sixth floor and had walked right past Oswald's Sniper's Nest (without going INTO the "Nest", which I do not think he did at any time that day), and if Williams had deposited a chicken bone on top of a box near the Nest --- what would that prove?

We already KNOW that Bonnie Ray was up there on the sixth floor eating his lunch fairly near Oswald's sniper's perch at a point in time that was fairly close to the time of the assassination itself. And we know, via the Dillard picture, that Bonnie Ray was not actually ON THE SIXTH FLOOR at the time of the assassination. He moved down to the fifth floor to join his co-workers Norman and Jarman shortly before shots were fired at the President.

So a leftover chicken bone sitting on top of a box near the assassin's lair is pretty much meaningless in the long run, in my opinion.

I think, once again, that some conspiracy theorists are attempting to make something that is totally insignicant seem vitally important. In this instance, they seem to be creating a six-course chicken dinner out of a single leftover poultry bone.

COLIN CROW SAID:

It is clear you are unaware of the timelines witnesses are describing. This is the simple reason why a black man may not have been observed by Brennan for example. He did not take up position on the wall until about 12:25 or so. By this time, Rowland's attention was elsewhere and the man had likely left.

TONY FRATINI SAID:

I don't care what Vincent [Bugliosi] believes or not - it is undeniable that Rowland saw BRW [Bonnie Ray Williams] IN the SN and he was present on the same floor as the sniper was. The WC completely discredited the man for no reason at all.

BRW left evidence IN the SN that he was indeed present. Vincent is merely paying lip service to the WC - anyone can see that, David.

That FACT [regarding Arnold Rowland saying he saw a black man in the Sniper's Nest prior to 12:15 PM on 11/22/63] is a game changer.

He saw BRW first and then he saw the sniper second on the WEST end of the 6th floor at around 12:15 pm. This makes perfect sense because from that position the sniper can see ALL the way down to the SN. The sniper must [have] been wondering who was in the SN.

I believe that both parties knew of each other's presence on the 6th floor. Fear--absolute fear--gripped BRW. He left quick. But he left late, 5 minutes before the arrival of the POTUS. [It] chimes in perfectly with the movements of Norman and Jarman coming back into the TSBD.

What we have in the "official records" in regards to the movement of Norman, Jarman and Williams is nothing but made-up nonsense.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Here's what I think happened with respect to Arnold Rowland's observation about seeing a "black man" on the 6th floor of the Book Depository....

Rowland did what I believe other witnesses on the ground in Dealey Plaza did that day --- he got his floors mixed up. He saw a black man (Harold Norman) in the FIFTH-floor window, directly underneath the Sniper's Nest window, and Arnold thought that the black man (Norman) was on the SIXTH floor. But Norman, of course, was one floor below the assassin.

And I say all of the above even though Rowland said in his Warren Commission testimony that he ALSO saw "two Negro women, I think" in the fifth-floor window. But it's fairly clear that Arnold was a bit mixed up there, and his use of the words "I think" would indicate a certain amount of uncertainty on this point, because we know there were not two "women" visible in the fifth-floor windows on November 22nd. Those "two Negro" individuals were, of course, Harold Norman and Bonnie Ray Williams, neither of whom resemble "women" to me (even from a considerable distance).

I also think Amos Euins made the very same mistake when he said in some of his statements that he saw a black man in the sixth-floor assassin's window. Euins, too, simply got the floor number wrong. He also most likely saw Harold Norman looking out of the fifth-floor corner window and later thought Norman was on the SIXTH floor.

Norman, Williams, and Jarman were SO CLOSE to the actual assassin's window (being just one floor below the gunman when Oswald killed the President from the sixth floor) that, in my opinion, it's very understandable how various witnesses could have been confused and rattled when they attempted to re-create in their minds the precise details regarding the floor numbers.

Plus, I'll ask this question:

How does anything uttered by Arnold Rowland change the physical evidence in the case?

In other words, how does Rowland's testimony make Oswald INNOCENT of shooting John Kennedy?

Please explain that to me.

COLIN CROW SAID:

I find Bugliosi's analysis fatuous and imaginative......as with the previous dismissal of the chicken lunch issue.

As for your suggestion that Rowland saw Norman.....timing again David....they weren't there at the times indicated.....sorry...no cigar.

In fact, a proper analysis of Rowland's WC testimony shows he had an excellent recall of people in the windows that day....much better than that of Brennan. A fact helped no doubt by the longer time frame he was viewing the building and the angle he viewed from compared to Brennan.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Does that mean you think Arnold Rowland DID see "two Negro women" in the fifth-floor windows?

COLIN CROW SAID:

I would not expect every detail to be 100% correct given the circumstances. Just as I don't discount Brennan's observations simply because he said the man was sitting on the window sill or thought he was standing.

TONY FRATINI SAID:

So now - because Rowland didn't get every minute detail correct, you're going to do the same thing as the WC and Vincent did?

Rowland's observation of BRW is backed up - now wait for it - by BRW himself and the leaving of physical evidence by BRW himself.

Colin and I have the same material that you and Vince have, yet our conclusions are in stark contrast to you. Why is that?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

I guess there are some conspiracists who must believe that Bonnie Ray Williams was lying through his teeth when he said this to the Warren Commission....

Mr. BALL -- "Where did you eat your lunch?"

Mr. WILLIAMS -- "I ate my lunch--I am not sure about this, but the third or the fourth set of windows, I believe."

Mr. BALL -- "Facing on what street?"

Mr. WILLIAMS -- "Facing Elm Street."

[...]

Mr. DULLES -- "And you were all alone?"

Mr. WILLIAMS -- "Yes, sir."

-----------

So, it's pretty clear from Bonnie Ray's WC testimony quoted above that he did NOT eat his lunch IN THE SNIPER'S NEST on November 22, 1963. And anybody saying he DID eat his lunch in the SN is totally ignoring the BEST witness in this regard---Mr. Bonnie Ray Williams himself.

TONY FRATINI SAID:

If you read [Bonnie Ray Williams'] testimony, you will see that he described initially being in the SN and that he moved on his way out to get to the fifth floor.

Mr. WILLIAMS -- "First of all, I remember there was some boxes behind me. I just kind of leaned back on the boxes first. Then I began to get a little impatient, because there wasn't anyone coming up. So I decided to move to a two-wheeler."

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Absolute nonsense. Williams wasn't describing being in the Sniper's Nest in that testimony. He was talking about leaning back on some of the boxes that we can easily see are stacked up all around the area where Bonnie Ray's Dr. Pepper bottle and the two-wheeler were located. There are boxes everywhere....

COLIN CROW SAID:

Either he [Bonnie Ray Williams] lied,

Or

The assassin had a chicken lunch too that he didn't finish.....that disappeared entirely under the noses of numerous police officers (maybe they were hungry),

Or

The assassin grabbed BRW's lunch after he left......then someone moved it back to the two wheeler,

Or

Feel free to [provide] another possibility, David.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

I don't think anyone lied. Some people were simply mistaken. Like Edwards and Fischer when they said FIFTH floor in their affidavits when they really meant SIXTH floor.

But the theory I'm hearing in this discussion means you guys need to have Bonnie Ray Williams lying his head off, plus various police officers lying, and the Warren Commission too. It's just plain silly (not to mention totally unnecessary on ANYONE'S behalf)....and surely you know it's silly. But you insist on making mountains out of nothingness anyway. It's in a CTer's blood. You can't help it, I guess.

You guys seem to think the ONLY place where BRW could have possibly leaned back on some boxes on the entire sixth floor was INSIDE the Sniper's Nest itself----even though Williams is clear he was NOT that far EAST on the building's sixth floor when he ate his lunch. But you'll ignore the person who is obviously the best witness to say where he ate lunch----Bonnie Ray himself.

Plus, what makes you think Williams couldn't have MOVED the two-wheeler truck just a little bit (one way or the other)? It was a MOVABLE object, you know. Just as a piece of chicken is MOVABLE.

And a piece of chicken that inexplicably goes from one part of the sixth floor to another (and I cannot explain it; I have no idea why there is the conflicting testimony regarding the chicken bones) is not going to suddenly ERASE the physical evidence of Oswald's guilt. Nor will that piece of chicken (or its bones) erase the known incriminating ACTIONS of one Lee Harvey Oswald on 11/22/63.

Oswald's guilt in both the Kennedy and Tippit murders is rock-solid and will survive the avalanche of speculative nonsense coming from conspiracy theorists about chicken bones and the unsupportable allegations about Bonnie Ray Williams being a liar, etc.

Nobody in this discussion has done anything that diminishes Lee Oswald's guilty status----even if the chicken bones WERE moved around on the sixth floor by somebody (anybody!) on November 22nd.

TONY FRATINI SAID:

BONNIE RAY WILLIAMS -- "Well, at the time I couldn't see too much of the sixth floor, because the books at the time were stacked so high. I could see only in the path that I was standing--as I remember, I could not possibly see anything to the east side of the building. But just one aisle, the aisle I was standing in I could see just about to the west side of the building. So far as seeing to the east and behind me, I could only see down the aisle behind me and the aisle to the west of me."

Bingo - do you want me to draw you a schematic?

If he was at the two wheeler - he could see all the way to the SN, David.

He couldn't see anything to the EAST because he was at the SOUTHEAST corner.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

You actually think a person who is ALREADY AS FAR EAST AS HE COULD POSSIBLY BE on the sixth floor would say something like this?....

"I could not possibly see anything to the east side of the building."

Hilarious!

The above quote by Bonnie Ray Williams quite obviously indicates that the one place on the sixth floor where he definitely WAS NOT located was the Sniper's Nest (i.e., the far southeast corner).

Also....

For Tony....

One of the photos you've been using [this one] comes from the Secret Service re-enactment film. And I believe that film was produced on November 27th, five days after the assassination.

Therefore, what makes you think the box stacks were EXACTLY the same configuration on Nov. 27 as they were when Bonnie Ray Williams was on the sixth floor on Nov. 22? Couldn't they possibly be in a slightly different location five days later?

In addition, the Secret Service agent in that photo (i.e., still frame) is STANDING UP. He's not sitting down or squatting as LHO probably was doing when Bonnie Ray Williams was on the sixth floor on 11/22. And when the SS agent (John Howlett) sits down, he is completely out of sight of anyone else to the west of his Sniper's Nest position on the sixth floor---as Howlett himself demonstrates in the SS film here (about 11 minutes into the film)....

TONY FRATINI SAID:

You cannot place LHO within the SN, like Colin and I have done with BRW using testimony and physical evidence.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Let me pinch myself to see if I really read the above hunk of pure nonsense....

You're actually implying that LNers like myself have NO PHYSICAL EVIDENCE at all to tie Oswald to the assassination or to the "Sniper's Nest" on the sixth floor of the Book Depository?

(Let me pinch myself yet again, because such a statement is just ludicrous.)

OSWALD'S rifle.

OSWALD'S shells. (From his gun, I mean.)

OSWALD'S bullet fragments IN THE LIMOUSINE.

OSWALD'S prints all over the Nest where we know THE KILLER WAS SHOOTING FROM.

OSWALD'S prints on the paper bag (CE142). Like it or not, CE142 is an official piece of evidence, seen by multiple policemen in the SN, and it is irrevocably tied to Oswald via his 2 prints. Pretend it's a fake, but LNers will keep reminding CTers it exists all the same.

And there's, of course, Howard Brennan, who supplied "witness identification" evidence of Oswald's guilt. I know CTers hate Brennan's Johnny-come-lately positive IDing of LHO, but that's in the record too. So you'll have to deal with it (and toss it aside), much the same way I have to deal with Luke Mooney's account of seeing the chicken bones on a SN box. So, life ain't always easy, is it? For LNers or CTers. :)

But to imply that you have somehow destroyed the case against Oswald (or even PART of that case) by way of the "Chicken Bones" topic and/or BRW's testimony and/or Arnold Rowland's timeline of events is just laughable, Tony.

~~pinch, pinch~~

TONY FRATINI SAID:

The real issue, as I see it Dave, is that you don't actually believe any response or research from anyone who disputes the findings of the WC. Isn't that correct? You have already prejudged and predetermined people on the basis of their beliefs? So in essence - EVERYONE here who doesn't believe in the WC findings on LHO's guilt on assassinating JFK is automatically wrong and hence must be a "kook"? Right?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Tony,

After looking at the evidence that hangs Oswald 10 times over (or more), I believe that the "CTers" on almost all Internet forums are not evaluating the evidence properly or fairly---because that evidence DOES prove Lee Oswald's guilt in TWO murders (IMO). Therefore, anyone who says they think Oswald didn't shoot anybody on 11/22/63 is just flat-out wrong. (Again, "IMO".)

Five years ago, another LNer at another forum summed things up very succinctly and accurately when he said:

"There is almost as much evidence that Oswald shot Kennedy as there is evidence that Kennedy got shot." -- Bud; July 21, 2010

RELATED DISCUSSION....

STEPHANIE GOLDBERG SAID:

What about the remains of Bonnie Ray Williams' lunch on the 6th floor that were originally assumed to belong to the assassin? That also puts him on the sixth floor shortly before the shooting.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Hi Stephanie,

Yes, you're right about Bonnie Ray Williams being on the sixth floor shortly before 12:30 that day, but we also KNOW he could not possibly have been a "shooter"....because we know that Williams was on the FIFTH floor at the moment of the shooting....and this photograph proves it:

STEPHANIE GOLDBERG SAID:

Yes, I know that he wasn't the shooter.

If I remember correctly, lunch at the Book Depository was 12 noon to 12:45 pm. And we know the window photo places him on the 5th floor at 12:30. My train of thought here is wondering what he did or didn't say about why he ate his lunch up there and didn't see Oswald or anyone else on the 6th floor setting up a sniper's nest.

And then there's the fact that he left the remains of his lunch up there. Was he a slob? Was he in such a hurry to go downstairs that he couldn't pick up his trash? And was it his usual practice to eat alone on the sixth floor?

Just thinking out loud since we're talking about placing people on the sixth floor.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Why not just read Bonnie Ray Williams' Warren Commission testimony and find out?

(My favorite part of Bonnie Ray's testimony has always been the "chicken-on-the-bone sandwich" that he had for lunch on 11/22. Mmm! Sounds delicious! A dentist's delight!) 😀

STEPHANIE GOLDBERG SAID:

Thank you for the link. I did read the testimony. I'm not sure that it answered all of my questions, but the Warren Commission testimony always makes for interesting reading.

TONY KROME SAID:

Where do you place Oswald as Williams munches on his chicken bone sandwich?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

In the Sniper's Nest, trying to keep as quiet (and as low) as he can while Williams is there on the same sixth floor just a couple of windows west of Oswald's location.

More HERE.

RON BULMAN SAID:

Think Oswald got hungry smelling the fried chicken? Did he eat his cheese sandwich while waiting for JFK, race down the stairs after shooting JFK for a coke to wash it down, and of course throw his wrapping for the sandwich in the trash there as any good Commie would do? Before sauntering out onto the front steps after he met Baker and Truly, where?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

You've got several things occurring there, Ron, that are merely speculation on your part. (And I admit, I'm speculating about several things too in my Oswald Timeline. Some things we have to speculate about, if we want to discuss them at all, such as Oswald's whereabouts at various times throughout the day of November 22, 1963).

Your speculation above includes Oswald eating a cheese sandwich. But there's no proof he ever ate anything at all for his lunch that day. We only have his word for that. And I don't think that Oswald's "word" is exactly a highly reliable source to go on if you're looking for the truth connected to either murder that Oswald himself was charged with committing. In short, Lee Harvey Oswald lied about a lot of things after his arrest that day.

TONY KROME SAID:

Is this how you imagine it?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Yes, that's about right.

And we know from the re-enactment performed in this 1964 Secret Service film that a person who was sitting or squatting within the Sniper's Nest in the southeast corner of that sixth floor would definitely be hidden from the view of other people who might have been standing to the west of the Sniper's Nest. (Go to 11:33 in that linked video to see the re-enactment.)

Bonnie Ray Williams, in his Warren Commission testimony, said:

"I ate my lunch--I am not sure about this, but the third or the fourth set of windows, I believe."

Now, regardless of which end of the building Williams was referring to as his starting point (East or West) when he said "the third or the fourth set of windows", it likely means that Williams ate his lunch pretty close to the MIDDLE part of the sixth floor (given the fact that there are seven total "sets" of windows comprising the width of the Book Depository Building).

Given the way the book cartons were stacked up around the southeast corner window *, I can easily envision Oswald being able to hide from the view of Bonnie Ray Williams during the brief period of time that Williams was up on the sixth floor on November 22.

* The linked photo (CE726) is, however, probably a "reconstructed" arrangement of the boxes. I'm not positive of that fact, but since the photo in CE723 was taken on November 25, 1963 (per the information found at 17 H xvii), then it's probably safe to assume that the picture seen in CE726 is a reconstructed photo as well.

TONY KROME SAID:

Let's take a look at a small part of [Arnold] Rowland's testimony without concerning ourselves with the remainder:

Mr. SPECTER - Over how long a time span did you observe the Negro man? [Rowland believes 6th floor, so this question relates to that]

Mr. ROWLAND - He was there before I noticed the man with the rifle. [Rowland stated he saw this Rifle man at approx 12:15pm]

At this point, Dave, I'm not interested in the man with the rifle, nor the location of Negro man or Rifle man, only the timestamp.

Rowland places a Negro man on the 6th floor just before 12:15pm and you have have placed Williams on the 6th floor at the same time as per the photo I presented to you.

Do you think it's a sheer fluke that Rowland stated that there was a Negro man on the 6th floor at just before 12:15pm and that it turned out to be a fact?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Well, the black man Arnold Rowland saw on the sixth floor could very well have been Bonnie Ray Williams. We know from Williams' own testimony that he WAS on the sixth floor at about that time (approx. 12:10 to 12:20 PM).

We can know from Williams' testimony, however, that he was never located in the southeast corner window, even though Rowland places him there at one point during his testimony. But Williams himself tells us that cannot be the case.

So, should we believe Williams or Rowland? I'd choose Williams in this instance, since he would be more aware of where he was on the sixth floor than Rowland would be.

I know where you're going with this line of thought, of course ---- You're wondering how the heck Rowland could have seen Williams BEFORE he saw the gunman STANDING in front of the window on the WEST side of the sixth floor, and yet not have Williams seeing the gunman (Oswald) too.

Well, that's a fair point.

My answer would be----

Arnold Rowland was just a little bit inaccurate with respect to some of the timestamps he put on the things he saw on 11/22/63....which couldn't be more common among witnesses.

Another possibility is that Rowland didn't really see any Negro on the sixth floor that day. Instead, he could have seen Harold Norman "hanging out" of the FIFTH-floor window directly under the sixth-floor Sniper's Nest window.

I think several witnesses made that same "5th or 6th floor?" mistake on November 22nd. They claimed things were happening on the SIXTH floor (in the southeast corner window), but what they very likely were seeing was occurring in the FIFTH-floor window instead. (Check out the affidavits of witnesses Ronald Fischer and Robert Edwards for verification of this phenomenon.)

TONY KROME SAID:

So we have Rowland's eyes directly on the 6th floor at just before 12:15pm where he likely saw Williams.

Now, you place Oswald with a rifle on the 6th floor at 12:15pm and Rowland believes he saw a man with a rifle on the 6th floor at 12:15pm.

Again, forget about the location, but do you see a pattern here? Rowland gets it right again, he believed he saw a rifle man on the 6th floor at 12:15pm, and according to you, this is another fact.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

In the past, I've talked about the timing of Arnold Rowland's observations....

http://jfk-archives/Arnold Rowland & The Black Man

TONY KROME SAID:

Yes, I've read that,

But we've moved on from the "black" man. You have Williams as moving to the 5th floor around the 12:15pm mark, so he's gone.

I want to get into more detail, so I was hoping you could address this:

Rowland gets it right again, he believed he saw a rifle man on the 6th floor at 12:15pm, and according to you, it's a fact that a rifle man was on the 6th floor at 12:15pm.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Yes, Tony, it's true that I believe that a lone rifleman (named Oswald) was located on the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository Building at 12:15 PM CST on 11/22/63.

And YES, I do believe that Arnold Rowland "got it right" when he said he saw a man holding a rifle on the sixth floor of the TSBD before any shooting occurred in Dealey Plaza that day. And that is one of the reasons I disagree with Vincent Bugliosi on this point. He thinks Rowland was making up tall tales. But it's Rowland's testimony about seeing the gunman prior to the motorcade arriving, and telling his wife about it at that time (BEFORE the motorcade arrived) that convinces me that Mr. Rowland was not just making up a story out of whole cloth.

And it's really the testimony (and the 11/22/63 affidavit) of Rowland's wife, Barbara Rowland, that cinches the deal for me on Arnold Rowland's truthfulness. Because she too would have to be making up a lie (or she would have to be willing to just go along with her husband's lie) in order for Arnold's testimony to be false about seeing a man with a gun on the 6th floor before the shooting even started. And I see no reason to believe that Mrs. Barbara Rowland was a liar.

TONY KROME SAID:

Ok, now we bring in the location....

You have Oswald hiding in the Sniper's Nest while Williams is munching on a chicken bone sandwich.

Williams then departs for the 5th floor.

I assume you have Oswald all alone at this point on the 6th floor.

Rowland was quite specific on where he saw the rifle man, and that was the southwest corner, where he drew an arrow to on CE356.

Is there an impossibility, in your mind, that Oswald could not have walked from the Sniper's Nest to the southwest corner, surveyed the area from this viewpoint, and returned to the Sniper's Nest?

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

I think it's quite possible that Oswald did exactly what you just suggested above, Tony. And in my previously-linked "Oswald Timeline" (which I originally wrote at the alt.conspiracy.jfk Usenet newsgroup on April 16, 2007), I theorize about a similar scenario:

"11:55 AM-12:05 PM (estimated) -- Oswald has the whole sixth floor to himself. This is just prior to Bonnie Ray Williams coming back up to the 6th Floor to eat his lunch. It's my belief that Lee Oswald, during this (approx.) 10-minute time period around noon or shortly after, probably went to the west end of the sixth floor (where he had his rifle hidden in the brown bag). Oswald unwraps the rifle at the west end of the sixth floor and assembles the rifle at the west end (hence, Arnold Rowland sees a white man with a rifle at the west end of the building at approx. this time, maybe a little later, 12:15 or so, but keep in mind the approximation of all times). It's quite possible, IMO, that Oswald initially was considering using the WEST-end window as his shooting window. But, for one reason or another, he decided that a window on the EAST end of the sixth floor would better serve his purposes. Perhaps he was mentally factoring in the angles and trajectories in his head, and possibly realized that an east-end perch would be a better one, especially since the Secret Service agents would all have their backs to him when he began firing, if he decided to wait until after the cars had turned the Elm/Houston corner....which, IMO, Oswald definitely had in his mind to do, due to the pre-arranged way the rifle-rest boxes were constructed (i.e., in a "Rifle Always Pointing West/Southwest" manner). It's also possible that, as Oswald mulled over potential shooting locations, he realized that a goodly number of boxes were already down on the east end of the 6th Floor, which would make constructing a makeshift "Nest" all the easier for him."
-- DVP; April 2007

----------------

Let me also add this....

When re-examining the timelines provided by Arnold Rowland and Bonnie Ray Williams, it's very possible, in my opinion, that BOTH Rowland and Williams might very well be correct in their timelines (or pretty close to being accurate anyway).

I said earlier --- "Arnold Rowland was just a little bit inaccurate with respect to some of the timestamps he put on the things he saw."

But when comparing Rowland's timeline with Bonnie Ray's, it could be that Rowland's timing was fairly accurate, because Williams said he got to the sixth floor to eat his lunch at "about 12", and he also said: "I was there from--5, 10, maybe 12 minutes".

That timeline provided by Williams would mean he left the sixth floor no later than 12:12 PM, which would be three minutes before Rowland said he saw the white man with a rifle on the west end of the sixth floor.

So that "merging" of the Rowland/Williams timelines fits very nicely, and it does no harm whatsoever to the "Oswald Did It Alone" scenario that I firmly endorse. And via that "merging" of timelines, Rowland can, indeed, see a Negro (Williams) on the sixth floor BEFORE he sees a white man with a rifle standing on the west side of the same sixth floor. And this can occur without the need of Williams seeing Oswald standing at the west end---because Williams has already left the 6th floor via this scenario.

Then, after Williams departs the 6th floor between approximately 12:05 and 12:12 PM (per Williams' own estimate), Oswald then moves (for some unknown reason that nobody will ever be able to fully figure out) from the Sniper's Nest (where he had been temporarily "hiding" from Williams) to the west side of the building, where (again, for some unknown reason) he decides to make himself and his Mannlicher-Carcano rifle plainly visible to Arnold L. Rowland, as Oswald stands in front of the west-end window while holding his rifle.

ANOTHER RELATED DISCUSSION....

JEAN PAUL CEULEMANS SAID THIS.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Since you've touched on the subject of Bonnie Ray Williams and the fact that he decided (for whatever reason) to litter the sixth floor of the Book Depository with the remnants of his lunch on 11/22/63....I hope everyone here won't mind if I indulge in a little bit of comic relief on the topic of Bonnie Ray and his Nov. 22nd lunch feast....

My favorite part of Bonnie Ray Williams' Warren Commission session [seen here] has always been his testimony about the chicken-on-the-bone sandwich that he said he ate for lunch when he was up on the 6th floor on 11/22.

I can't help but chuckle whenever I run across that testimony. And so, just for fun, in the year 2010 (in this Usenet newsgroup posting) and again in 2016 (in this post at The Education Forum), I decided to spread the mirth and merriment concerning Bonnie Ray's hard-to-swallow noontime meal in those two Internet messages linked above (and screen-captured below).

P.S. -- If Bonnie Ray Williams is still with us here on this Earth, I want him to know that I'm not making fun of him. I'm only snickering at his choice of November 22 luncheon entrees, which should have made every dentist in Dallas County jump for joy due to the increased business Bonnie Ray's bone-riddled poultry delicacy surely supplied them.

PAT SPEER SAID THIS.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Putting a piece of bone-in chicken between two pieces of bread is ludicrous (in the south or anywhere else). What's the point of even doing that when nobody who isn't insane is going to pick it up and eat it as a "sandwich" anyway? It's just silly.

But, as they say, variety is the spice of life (and sandwiches). :)

BTW, Joseph Ball of the Warren Commission [at 3 H 169] also seemed to think it was a bit strange to eat a sandwich with bones in it.

LARRY HANCOCK SAID THIS.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

I love chicken sandwiches. In fact, when I operated my KFC restaurant here in the Hoosier State, I would regularly take one of our center-cut breast pieces (which we referred to as a "keel") and make a sandwich out of it for my lunch. But I'd make sure to debone the bird before putting any of it between the bread. Which is what any sensible person would do, of course. (No offense to the south—or to Mr. Bonnie Ray Williams—intended.) :)

PAT SPEER SAID THIS.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Well, of course a "sandwich" consists of bread and meat, Pat. No argument there. The ridiculous thing that we've been talking about in this thread is having BONES in a SANDWICH. Because "Bones" and "Sandwich" do not mix. No way, no how.

DAVID VON PEIN ALSO SAID:

As a side note to all this "chicken" talk, I thought I'd post this newspaper ad that I found recently, which is something that really illustrates in no uncertain terms just how much times have changed since 1963 when it comes to the cost of fast food in North America.

Just take a gander at all the food you could get for only $4.95 at the local KFC outlet in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, in July of 1963! This Picnic Pack seems like a steal of a deal---even for JFK's era. This amount of food would cost over $50 today. Oh, how I wish it were 1963 again! If only to see these prices one more time! ....

More shockingly low food prices from the 1950s and 1960s can be found amongst the various KFC ads I've collected and put on this webpage. It's a time warp experience indeed.

DVP ALSO SAID THIS.

JOSEPH McBRIDE SAID THIS.

DAVID VON PEIN SAID:

Nonsense. The widespread inaccurate reporting on radio and television on November 22nd about Oswald eating a chicken dinner while waiting for JFK to enter the kill zone was just another of the innocent and understandable mistakes made by the media in the immediate aftermath of the assassination. It wasn't designed to be "propaganda" at all.

At the time those erroneous "chicken dinner" reports were being broadcast, the media really did think the President's killer was up there on the 6th floor munching on chicken while he waited for Kennedy to arrive in Dealey Plaza. And given the close proximity of the chicken scraps and the soft drink bottle to the assassin's Sniper's Nest in the Depository, a reasonable and understandable conclusion to reach was that JFK's murderer had, indeed, been the one who was dining on chicken just before pulling the trigger.

No intentional "propaganda" there at all. Merely a perfectly logical mistake made by media personnel who were merely trying their best to quickly report to the world all the details they could concerning one of the worst tragedies of the 20th century. Nothing more than that.
